Getting Started

A handful of ideas repeat across every area of Duka. Understanding them once makes the rest of the product predictable.

Workspace

Your workspace is your team's shared environment — one shared calendar, task list, notes, people directory, and tag set. If you belong to more than one workspace, you can switch between them from the workspace menu; everything you see updates to that workspace's data.

Visibility: private vs. shared

Tasks, notes, and other items can be marked private (visible only to you) or shared with the workspace. Look for the lock icon when creating or editing an item — it toggles visibility. Private items still count toward your own schedule and analytics, but nobody else in the workspace can see their content.

Tags and Functions

Tags are labels you can attach to almost anything — tasks, events, notes, meetings, people. They're the fastest way to answer "show me everything related to X" no matter what kind of thing X touches. See Tags & Tag Home.

Functions are a special flavor of tag used to categorize work by department or discipline (e.g. "Engineering", "Sales", "Support"). They show up in Work Analytics so you can see where time actually goes.

Work sessions

When you start a timer on a task or event (from the Work Bucket), Duka records a work session — the actual stretch of time you spent on it. Sessions are what powers Work Analytics; scheduled duration and actual time spent are tracked separately so you can see where your estimates are off.

Daily capacity

Duka won't silently let you schedule more hours of work than you actually have in a day. Your workday hours, minus personal calendar commitments, produce a capacity number — see Calendar & Scheduling for exactly how it's calculated.

These concepts are deliberately few. Duka avoids the "everything is configurable" trap — most of the product works the same way whether you're looking at a task, a note, or a meeting.
